Sheffield United have signed Andy Reid on loan from Sunderland until the end of November.
The 27-times capped Republic of Ireland midfielder, currently not getting a look-in at international level under Giovanni Trapattoni, has found first team options very limited at the Stadium of Light of late
He had missed a lot of action with a hamstring injury before recently making substitute appearances against Arsenal and Manchester United, but the emergency loan move to Bramall Lane gives him a chance to get some regular game time and work on the fitness work he has done.
The 28-year-old joins fellow Black Cat Nyron Nosworthy on loan at the Sheffield side and should go straight into manager Gary Speed’s squad for Saturday’s game against Coventry City.
Speed said of the signing: "It's a big boost to have him here for a month. He is of undoubted Premier League quality and is therefore a good addition to the squad.
“His versatility will be very valuable to us and he is fit and ready to go."
