West Ham put their poor Premier League form behind them on Saturday as they easily overcame Barnsley in the third round of the FA Cup.
A late Frederic Piquionne goal ensured the 2-0 win for the home side after Jonathan Spector had put the London outfit ahead just before the half-hour much to the relief of under-fire Hammers boss Avram Grant.
The Hammers finally took a deserved lead on 29 minutes when a Mark Noble pass deflected kindly into the path of Spector who finished well inside the area.
Barnsley had their first real chance after 35 minutes when Goran Lovre outsmuscled James Tomkins in the area, but with just skipper for the day Robert Green to beat, fired at the England stopper.
West Ham started the second-half in sluggish fashion and after 57 minutes the visitors should have been awarded a penalty when Tomkins needlessly gave the ball away to recently introduced substitute Jacob Butterfield.
Butterfield took on Tomkins and beat him before he was seemingly tripped by the Hammers defender, but referee Neil Swarbrick inexplicably waved play on much to the annoyance of the Championship side's supporters.
Adam Hammill struck a post for the Tykes late on but French striker Piquoinne rifled past the hugely impressive Luke Steele in injury time to seal the win, albeit uninspiring.
