Taylor eyes history

Ross Taylor wants to make history and help New Zealand reach the World Cup final for the first time with victory over Sri Lanka.

The Black Caps are set to face the tournament co-hosts in Colombo on Tuesday after securing their place in the last four of the World Cup with a stunning victory over South Africa last time out.

It will be the Kiwis sixth appearance in a World Cup semi-final but they have lost every one and are desperate to go one better this time around.

Daniel Vettori's men came into the tournament with high hopes and have performed well at times but, as with all Kiwi sides, they have lacked consistency and were blown away by both Australia and the Sri Lankans in the group stage.

But those defeats will all be forgotten if they do manage to reach the final for the first time in the history and Taylor has made it clear that they still have unfinished business on the sub-continent.

"We are proud of our history of making it to the semi-finals," he said. "But this team want to make history and go one step further and make the final. We believe we can do that and we want to show it on Tuesday.

"We've got an advantage that we've played Sri Lanka in the pool match and we did a few things wrong and hopefully we will rectify that in the match come Tuesday."
