Fab 'on verge' of Gunners exit

by Setanta Staff , 10 August 2011

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is reportedly on the verge of finally securing a move to Spanish giants Barcelona.

The transfer is yet to be completed but Arsenal and the Catalan outfit expect the deal to be finalised by the weekend.

The BBC suggest that Barcelona will make an initial payment of £30 million, plus an extra £5 million in performance-related payments.

If the move does happen, Fabregas will be due around £4million in compensation for the four years of his contract he is yet to complete.

However, the midfield playmaker is expected to give up the payments in order to push through the move to Camp Nou.

Arsenal had stood firm over their £40 million valuation of the player but it would seem as if the Gunners have finally relented and will allow Fabregas to join the Spanish champions.

It has also been reported that the Gunners will reinvest all the funds raised from Fabregas' transfer back into the squad, with boss Arsene Wenger keen to bolster his options in defence.

Wenger has already seen a bid for Everton's Phil Jagielka rejected but the Frenchman could try his luck again with an improved offer once Fabregas' exit has been confirmed, while Birmingham's Scott Dann and England international Gary Cahill, of Bolton Wanderers, are also targets.
