Scotland suffer Walker blow

It has been confirmed that Scotland wing Nikki Walker will miss the World Cup due to injury.

After coming on as a substitute in the 23-12 win over Italy on Saturday, Walker left the field on a stretcher late in the game. Following medical assessments, the Ospreys player was found to have suffered a medial ligament injury, and it was confirmed that he will take no part in the tournament in New Zealand.

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson said: "Nikki has worked exceptionally hard in training and some of the running lines he made yesterday when he came off the bench were first-class.

"It's obviously disappointing for Nikki.

"We all feel for him but injuries do happen in sport and you just have to deal with them. We wish Nikki a speedy recovery."

Robinson will name his 30-man squad for the World Cup on Monday, with Scotland's campaign at the tournament to begin with a clash against Romania in Pool B in Invercargill on September 10.
