Nottingham Forest have confirmed Steve Cotterill as their new manager after striking a compensation deal with npower Championship rivals Portsmouth.
Cotterill revealed on Friday that he had agreed to take the reins at the City Ground and that the details of the agreement, which are understood to include a package in the region of £250,000 for Pompey, had been ironed out.
The 47-year-old subsequently travelled to the east midlands to put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
"I'm very excited - it's a wonderful football club which has great traditions which should be embraced," Cotterill, who replaces former England boss Steve McCalren, told Forest's website.
"I'm passionate - I want us to play good football and play on the front foot.
"I think there are some very talented players in the dressing room and we'll be looking only to enhance that and do well with them.
"I like to think of myself as hard-working, honest and a winner."
Pompey confirmed the departure of Cotterill in a statement, which read: "Portsmouth can confirm that Steve Cotterill has parted company with the club to take up the manager's post at Nottingham Forest.
"A compensation agreement has been made with Nottingham Forest over Cotterill's departure to the City Ground.
"Portsmouth would like to thank Steve for his efforts during his 16 months at Fratton Park."
Forest are fourth from bottom of the Championship, two places and one point behind Pompey.
