Liverpool left back Jose Enrique has been tipped for a Spain call-up in the near future by his Reds club-mate Stewart Downing.
The 25-year-old made the switch from Newcastle to Anfield over the summer and has made the position on the left-hand side of the Reds' defence his own already.
And Downing feels the former Villarreal man has what it takes to earn selection by Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque.
He told the BBC: "Jose is a talented player and has done very well since he's come here.
"He must have a great chance of getting in the Spain squad and maybe he will be lining up against England (next week in a friendly).
"I enjoy playing alongside him and I think you can see we're gelling as a team."
Spain have recently turned to Valencia's Jordi Alba as they look to replace the long-serving full back Joan Capdevilla, whose career seems to have stalled following a move to Benfica in Portugal.
