McCoist issues title rallying call

Ally McCoist has insisted Rangers remain on target for another SPL title despite losing their lead to Celtic after the Old Firm derby.

Joe Ledley's 52nd-minute header was enough to settle Wednesday night's encounter at Parkhead to earn Celtic an incredible ninth successive win and Rangers now trail their arch-rivals by two points heading into the new year.

The Gers were 15 points clear at one stage in the title race and boss McCoist now faces the task of having to rally his troops for the visit of third-placed Motherwell to Ibrox on January 2 but he is still confident in his side's ability.

McCoist said: "As manager of this football club, I have to believe [we can win the league] and I do believe. "

If we get fresh blood in January that would be great, but if we don't I certainly believe we can go on and win the title.

"But it will be very difficult, as it is to win any championship."

Rangers were unlucky not to take the lead as early as the sixth minute on Wednesday when Lee Wallace's header appeared to cross the goalline but the officials failed to see it.

McCoist added: "Our knew the Wallace header was close but we were too far away. Our players thought it was over. There wasn't any doubt it was, looking at the replay. "

But some don't go your way in big games.

There are two points in it and we have got everything to play for."
