Sheffield Wednesday assistant-manager Chris Evans felt that his side's 2-1 win at home to Tranmere was fully deserved following a dominant first-half display.
Early goals from Reda Johnson and Chris Lines put the home side in control and they created numerous other chances before Tranmere substitute Ian Goodison pulled a goal back late on.
And Evans was delighted with the Owls' display, saying: "We (the Wednesday coaching staff) thought it was the best performance in the first half since we've been at the football club.
"
We asked them to come out of the blocks quickly, which they did.
This is where the work we've put in pays dividends.
We created 12 chances and of course we'd like to have scored more, but there's got to be credit given to the players.
It would have been an injustice if we hadn't taken all three points.
"At the midway stage in the season, we're in a reasonable position to hopefully get where we want to be. We don't have a divine right to win matches.
"
We're not crowing because there's plenty of work to do on the training ground.
We know where we are and we know what we've got to do.
The players have been terrific.
It's about being calm and keeping your feet on the ground.
We go into the new year in a positive mood."
