Khan: Peterson furore has damaged boxing

by Setanta Staff , 21 January 2012

Amir Khan feels boxing's reputation has been severely damaged following the controversy surrounding his defeat to Lamont Peterson.

The 25-year-old lost to Peterson on points last December, but the WBA later ordered a rematch for "multiple irregularities" including "apparent intrusion into the scoring process" by mystery man Mustafa Ameen.

Peterson has since appealed against the WBA's decision, despite Khan conceding his title to the 27-year-old, while Ameen is considering suing Khan for his accusations.

Khan feels the integrity of the sport has been damaged following the saga, regardless of the result of the appeal and any possible re-match.

"A lot of young fighters from England want to go to America. If they get cheated the way I got cheated, they are going to think twice about going to America."
