Potters chief applauds Crouch verdict

by Setanta Staff , 25 January 2012 Potters chief applauds Crouch verdict

Stoke chief Peter Coates has welcomed the FA's decision not to charge striker Peter Crouch with violent conduct.

Crouch was left facing a possible charge and three-match ban over an incident with West Brom's Jonas Olsson in Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to the Baggies, with the frontman appearing to poke a finger in the defender's eye.

But the FA ruled on Tuesday that there was no case for the Potters striker, leaving him free to take his place in Stoke's squad for their FA Cup fourth round clash against Derby this weekend.

Coates told thisisstaffordshire.co.uk: "It is the correct decision. Peter is a good character who plays the game in the right way. People within the game know that."

Coates also praised Olsson and Albion boss Roy Hodgson for playing the affair down.

"Nobody involved made a fuss about it and that's always a good sign," he added.

The incident was missed by referee Anthony Taylor, but it is understood he would not have issued a red card had he seen it.
