Krul stunned by lack of success

by Setanta Staff , 27 January 2012 Krul stunned by lack of success

Newcastle keeper Tim Krul has revealed his surprise at the club's lack of silverware after a run of 43 years without a major trophy.

The Magpies last success story other than promotion was back in 1969 when they won the European Fairs Cup, and Krul feels it's high time the fans had something else to shout about for their loyal support.

Brighton stand in their way in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend and the Holland international is determined to avoid any slip-up as he looks to go all the way to the final.

Krul, who has spent the last six and a half years on Tyneside, is staggered that a club of United's status hasn't been more successful in recent years particularly when you consider the infrastructure and resources that they have at their disposal.

When asked if it shocked him, the Dutch stopper replied: "Yes, because it's got all the attributes - the stadium, the fans...

"If you see the clubs who have won prizes, I can't see why we can't get to the FA Cup final or push on as a top-six team.

"I have said it for years now, that Newcastle has got everything to be one of the top teams, and we are showing that this season."
