O'Neill to raise Davies bid

by Setanta Staff , 30 January 2012 O'Neill to raise striker bid

Sunderland will make another approach to sign Kevin Davies after failing with one offer for the striker over the weekend.

Wanderers boss Owen Coyle rejected Martin O'Neill's first approach for the 34-year-old but the Black Cats boss does not plan to give up without a fight and another offer is in the pipeline.

Davies is due to fall out of contract in the summer and Coyle must be tempted to cash in on a player that is struggling to fight his way into the first team on a regular basis.

Coyle insists Davies is still in his plans and will not sell but his resolve looks certain to be tested again before tomorrow's deadline.

"I think that obviously the concern is that come Wednesday morning and the transfer window closing - that's it!" O'Neill revealed. "I'm delighted with Fraizer Campbell coming back into the team and scoring, and that helps enormously of course.

"But I still think we should have a look at the transfer market even if we're unable to do something.

"I think we'll have a good look at the transfer market and try to bolster the squad.

"As far as the Kevin Davies situation is concerned, I don't really want to comment, but it is something we'll be looking at over the next two days."
