Octet called into senior squad

Chris Henry and David Kearney are among the players that have been called up to the Ireland senior squad for the opening game of the RBS Six Nations against Wales on Sunday.

Declan Kidney had always planned to increase his squad after initially naming a 24-man panel for last week's training camp in Limerick and he has called up a further eight players for this weekend's opener at the Aviva Stadium.

The majority of the squad that trained in Limerick have been retained, while Kidney has called up Denis Hurley, Dan Tuohy, Chris Henry and Rhys Ruddock, all of whom represented the O2 Ireland Wolfhounds in the defeat by the England Saxons on Saturday.

Kidney and his management team have also included uncapped players David Kearney, Eoin O’Malley, Simon Zebo, Brett Wilkinson and Peter O’Mahony.

The starting XV for Sunday's clash against World Cup semi-finalists Wales will be chosen from the 32-man squad with Paul O'Connell set to skipper the side in the absence of the injured Brian O'Driscoll.
