Bardsley hails O'Neill factor

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley has hailed the impact of new manager Martin O'Neill for turning around the fortunes of the team.

The Black Cats have now won four out of their last five matches following Wednesday night's 3-0 victory over Norwich and Bardsley claims the former Aston Villa supremo deserved much of the credit.

A return of 19 points from a possible 27 has certainly been welcomed by the Sunderland public but the full-back admits his approach isn't all that different from his predecessor Steve Bruce.

His secret according to the former Manchester United youngster is his attention to detail to the finer things, which is paying off immeasurably.

"It's been so simple," he said. "The manager has changed things around with simple things. He says things to you and you think, 'Oh yeah, that's right'.

"It's not massive things; it's just his presence and the things he says. He's a great person to learn from.

"The new manager's come in and everybody's playing for their place and showing what they're all about."
