The Football Association has refused to react to comments made by Fabio Capello on the decision to remove John Terry as captain.
The Chelsea skipper has lost the armband for a second time after the FA ruled he must stand down pending the outcome of a racial abuse trial following an alleged incident with QPR's Anton Ferdinand earlier in the season.
Capello clearly did not agree with the reasoning - despite himself having demoted the 31-year-old in February 2010 following off-the-field allegations - and has revealed his stance back in his homeland.
The 65-year-old told state broadcaster RAI: "I thought it was right that Terry should keep the captain's armband.
"I have spoken to the [FA] chairman and I have said that in my opinion one cannot be punished until it is official and the court - a non-sport court, a civil court - had made a decision to decide if John Terry has done what he is accused of."
England are next in action at the end of the month when Holland make the trip to Wembley for an international friendly on Wednesday, February 29.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard is the bookmakers' favourite to succeeed Terry.
