Aston Villa have failed in their attempts to extend Republic of Ireland skipper Robbie Keane's loan stay from Los Angeles Galaxy.
Keane has made a big impact since returning to English Premier League on loan from the MLS outfit, scoring three times in two league appearances so far, and Villa are keen for him to keep him for as long as possible.
However, the American have rejected Alex McLeish's pleas and his last game for Villa will come against Wigan at the DW Stadium on February 25. Galaxy are adamant that he returns to Los Angeles after the clash in order to prepare for the new Major Soccer League season which gets underway on March 10.
In the meantime, Keane will line-up for Villa against Manchester City this coming Sunday, but must then wait another two weeks for his final appearance as the Midlands side enjoy a break from action while FA Cup fifth-round ties are played.
