Gabby urged to take up Yoga

by Setanta Staff , 09 February 2012 Striker urged to take up Yoga

Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish believes Gabriel Agbonlahor should take up yoga in attempt to steer clear of injury problems.

The lightning quick striker has suffered a number of niggling fitness issues in the past and McLeish is convinced he would do well by taking a leaf out of Ryan Giggs' book by exploring alternative ways of staying in peak condition.

The Manchester United winger's early career was also blighted by similar concerns but a physical, mental and spiritual approach has enabled him to remain at the top of the game at the ripe old age of 38.

"There are one or two players who do the yoga here," told the Birmingham Mail.

"I don't know if he will take that on board as well. It is something we will be talking about with the doctor and the fitness coach, whether he is going to embark on the yoga as well.

"If you are embarrassed about it or not sure and then you see a figurehead like Giggs doing it. I'm sure that has inspired a lot of young players.

"Gabby is an athlete, built for speed, and these are injuries that happen. I think if you look at Giggs flying down the wings in his young days he had a lot of hamstring problems.

"I remember reading quotes that he had to modify his game as he got older, which he has done superbly."
