Vaughan close to comeback

by Setanta Staff , 15 February 2012 football news

James Vaughan staked his claim for a return to the Norwich first team with a goal for the reserves in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to West Brom.

The 23-year-old striker has endured a frustrating spell at Carrow Road since his summer switch from Everton as he missed the start of the Premier League campaign due to a knee problem suffered on the club's pre-season tour of Germany.

Vaughan then required treatment on nasty facial injury he picked up during a challenge with West Brom's Gabriel Tamas, before being ruled out for another lengthy spell when he damaged knee ligaments in the 2-1 home win against Sunderland in late September.

However, Vaughan has worked his way back to fitness and followed up his hour-long goalscoring run-out against Chelsea's reserves at the end of January by converting his saved penalty after just three minutes on Tuesday evening to give a young Canaries' second string the lead against an experienced Baggies reserve side.

And, having been in the travelling squad for the recent FA Cup fourth round win at West Brom, Vaughan is certain to be involved in boss Paul Lambert's plans for this weekend's fifth round clash against Leicester at Carrow Road.
