As it happened: AC Milan v Arsenal

by Tony Cuddihy , 15 February 2012

All the action from the San Siro as Arsenal travelled to AC Milan in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Full-Time: AC Milan 4-0 Arsenal.

21.39: Pato shoots straight at Szczesny as the referee blows for full-time. That was truly appalling by the North London side. A performance of no redeeming features. That's it from me, thanks for keeping up...

21.35: A minute, plus injury time, remains. Arsenal have given up. There's no urgency to their play as Ramsey's pass drifts out of play.

21.31: No hat-trick for Robinho as he is replaced by Pato. Meanwhile, van Persie gets on the end of a fine cross by Oxlade-Chamberlain, but his header is smothered by Abbiati.

21.25: ITV might be trying to apportion the blame to Ibrahimovic, but it was clearly a foul by Djourou, who is booked. The Swede scores. AC Milan 4-0 Arsenal.

21.24: Penalty to Milan!

21.23: Vermaelen gets forward and his cross finds van Persie, but he's stretching for his right foot volley and it's safely into the arms of Abbiati.

21.22: Milan have clearly done the homework on Oxlade-Chamberlain, and their doubling up on the youngster.

21.16: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain comes on for Kieran Gibbs, while Boateng is replaced by Massimo Ambrosini.

21.11: 65 minutes into the game and Arsenal's best chance. Alex Song plays it to Henry, whose delightful flick is picked up by van Persie. The Dutchman's shot is saved brilliantly by Abbiati.

21.08: Arsenal have a free-kick after Philippe Mexes is booked for taking down Rosicky. The ball is played to Vermaelen but his shot is deflected safely into the hands of Abbiati, with Henry looming.

21.04: Abbiati flaps at the ball as Arsenal attack, but even Milan's mistakes lead to danger for the Premier League team. Milan stroll through midfield and the ball ends up with Antonini, who shoots narrowly wide.

20.56: That's that, they may as well call off the second leg. Vermaelen slips as Ibrahimovic finds Robinho and the Brazilian does the rest. AC Milan 3-0 Arsenal.

20.51: Arsenal have brought Thierry Henry on for, potentially, his final appearance for the club. Will he make it a memorable one?

20.38: We've reached half-time. Milan have totally dominated that half against a miserable Arsenal side. Van Persie has probably touched the ball twice, while the Gunners' defence has been run ragged by Ibrahimovic and Robinho.

20.33: Ibrahimovic turns Djourou and finds Boateng, who shoots wide from a tight angle. Meanwhile, Szczesny foils Antonini after a good run from the left-back. Brave 'keeping.

20.29: As Arsenal make a rare foray into the Milan half, Koscielny is injured. He can't continue and will be replaced by Johan Djourou.

20.27: Disaster for Arsenal! Again, Vermaelen and his fellow defenders are to blame as Ibrahimovic darts to the by-line and crosses for Robinho to head past Szczesny. Soft. The Swede looked a touch offside but it stands, and Arsenal have it all to to. AC Milan 2-0 Arsenal.

20.18: Half an hour gone here and the game has become subdued. Robinho tries to work some magic on the edge of the Arsenal box but his lofted pass to God-knows-who goes out of play.

20.11: Arsenal's first chance sees Robin van Persie's free-kick headed weakly into the arms of Abbiati by Koscielny.

20.09: "You can see the Gattuso comparisons," says Clive Tyldesley about Nocerino, who shot from the edge of the box goes narrowly over. Arsenal must still be in the dressing room, there's a team of impostors out there.

20.03: Wow! What a goal from Kevin Prince Boateng, who collects the ball from Nocerino before swivelling and lashing it first time past Szczesny. The former Spurs man will have enjoyed that. AC Milan 1-0 Arsenal.

19.59: An early change for Milan, as Clarence Seedorf is forced off injured. He's replaced by Urby Emanuelson, another Dutchman. Shame for Seedorf.

19.52: Milan go on the attack but Koscielny sees the ball out of play, under pressure from Ibrahimovic. Max Allegri is getting quite shouty on the touchline.

19.48: It's on. Arsenal look more like Villareal, clad all in yellow. Much of the build-up has centred on Ibrahimovic and how he told Arsene Wenger to 'do one' when he was 19. He was recently voted the best player in Serie A, but it'll be interesting to see which Zlatan shows up tonight. He can be moody. To say the very least.

19.39: We're six minutes from kick off and here are the teams. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain starts on the bench for Arsenal, as does Thierry Henry - who heads back to New York after this match.

Robin van Persie starts on his own up front, flanked by Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky.

For Milan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho lead the line, with Alex Pato on the bench.
