Serie A round-up: Milan held

by setantasports.com staff , 23 November 2008

The gap between league leaders Inter and their city rivals Milan stands at three points after The Rossoneri were held to a 2-2 draw at Torino on Sunday evening.

Roberto Stellone’s first-half strike looked to have been rendered irrelevant after goals from Milan’s Brazilian duo Alexandre Pato (29) and Ronaldinho (35) before Alessandro Rosina slotted home from the penalty spot with 13 minutes remaining to earn Torino a share of the points.

With Juventus, Inter and Fiorentina having already had their fill of weekend action on Saturday, most attention was down the bottom of Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

The relegation zone occupants remain the same, but it is Reggina who are the day’s most notable victors, moving level with safety thanks to three points earned with a 3-1 win over Atalanta.

Francesco Cozza gave Reggina the lead with nine minutes on the clock and goals from former Manchester City ‘striker’ Bernardo Corradi midway through the first half and with 11 minutes remaining were enough to see the hosts home and hosed despite Cristiano Doni’s 90th minute consolation.

The win sees Reggina move to within one point of Torino, Lecce and, most importantly of all, safety.

Bologna stay in the drop zone after being denied all three points at home to Palermo. Marco Di Vaio’s goal after 20 minutes looked to have been enough but substitute Davide Succi struck on the final whistle to ensure the spoils where shared.

Chievo stay rooted to the foot of the table after going down to two penalties in the closing seven minutes from Daniele Galloppa and former Middlesbrough man Massimo Maccarone to lose 2-0 at home to Siena.

Roma’s woes eased a little with a comfortable 3-0 win at Lecce that came courtesy of goals from Mirko Vucinic (10), Juan (38) and Francesco Totti (48).

Their city rivals Lazio drew 1-1 at home to Genoa, Diego Milita’s goal chalked out by Ousmane Dabo with ten minutes to go.

There was some notable movement at the top of the table in the form of Napoli, who moved into fourth after drawing 2-2 with Cagliari.

Ezequiel Lavezzi looked to have given them the win with six minutes remaining after earlier goals from Marek Hamsik (9) and Diego Rodriguez (55), but Daniele Conti earned Cagliari a point in injury time.

Claudio Bellucci (6) and Antonio Cassano (62, 90) saw Sampdoria to a comfortable 3-0 cruise past Catania.
