Internacional expecting interest for United target

by Robin Hackett , 23 June 2009

Internacional are expecting interest in reported Manchester United target Nilmar.

The 24-year-old striker, who had a disappointing spell with Lyon after joining the club in 2004, is now enjoying a revival in his homeland and is currently representing Brazil at the Confederations Cup.

The Daily Mirror reports that United have sent scouts to watch the player in action in South Africa and Internacional admit they now face a battle to retain him.

The club’s vice president, Fernando Carvalho, said in Band: "Now the interest will start coming in, but there are no offers yet."

Napoli have also been strongly linked with Nilmar but his agent, Orlando da Hora, has suggested that the player would reject the move because ‘they failed to respect Nilmar’ during negotiations two years ago.

Talks were held over a transfer but, after terms were agreed, Da Hora says Napoli changed their minds when they had heard negative reports about the player.

“He won’t go to Napoli now for any money,” he said.

Internacional currently own 70 percent of the player while third-party Delcyr own the remaining 30 percent.
