Italians retain Gower at ten

by Niamh O'Mahony , 18 June 2009

Nick Mallet has kept faith in Craig Gower (pictured with Stirling Mortlock) and retained the fly-half in his starting XV for the second Test against Australia.

Gower struggled at times against The Wallabies - his lack of international experiencing showing early on - but coach Nick Mallet has opted to give the former Rugby League player another chance.

Luke McLean also remains on following last weekend's 31-9 result, though there are ten changes elsewhere.

Giulio Rubini and Alberto Sgarbi start on the wings, with Gonzalo Canale and Gonzalo Garcia in midfield. Gower is partnered by Tito Tebaldi in the half backs.

Matias Aguero, Franco Sbaraglini and Fabio Staibano form the front row, with locks Tommaso Reato and Marco Bortolami in support. Veteran captain Sergio Parisse leads from the back row along with Simone Favaro and Jean Francois Montauriol.
