Lukas Jutkiewicz's first goal for Boro had brought the game into an added half an hour.

Middlesbrough had enjoyed the better of the early exchanges, with Jutkiewicz and Julio Arca forcing John O'Shea and Simon Mignolet to be at their best.

Colback then drove a shot across goal, before Seb Hines nearly scored for Tony Mowbray's side with an instinctive volley.

Sunderland had the lead three minutes before half-time, when Fraizer Campbell knocked the ball into the path of Colback, whose powerful shot rocketed into the net off the crossbar.

Middlesbrough equalised twelve minutes into the second half when young striker Curtis Main found his partner Jutkiewicz. The former Coventry man fought off Michael Turner before slotting the ball past Mignolet.

Sessegnon and Larsson had half chances for Sunderland as full-time approached, as did Thomson and Tony McMahon for Middlesbrough, but ultimately the sides could not be separated after 180 minutes.

With the Championship side tiring, it was left to Benin international Sessegnon to take advantage.

He played in Connor Wickham and, when the ball was cleared from the young striker's feet, it fell back into the path of the midfielder and Sessegnon was the hero for Martin O'Neill's side.

The Seasiders booked their trip to Goodison Park thanks to the easiest of 3-0 victories in their fourth-round replay at Sheffield Wednesday, which came courtesy of first-half efforts from Matt Phillips and Lomana LuaLua and a Ludovic Sylvestre strike after the interval.

All three goals were top-class finishes after an incisive attacking display and Holloway wants his side to reproduce that form on Merseyside.

"We have to try and replicate that at his place against his team," Holloway said when asked what Everton manager David Moyes would have thought of Blackpool's performance.

"They beat us 5-3 at their place last season and we drew 2-2 at our place and they kept their status and we didn't.

"We have to go there, a very tough place to go and they will be favourites, but let's see what we can do.

"We have got some unbelievably exciting games before that, though."

The Blues negotiated their passage into the final 16 with a convincing 4-0 win at Sheffield United on Saturday and must go on the road again when they travel to Stamford Bridge to meet the Barclays Premier League giants.

Chelsea have won the competition in three of the past five seasons and Hughton is relishing the chance to pit his team against them.

He told Birmingham's official website: "It's a fabulous draw for us for lots of reasons. We can go there without the pressure of being the favourites to go through.

"I know we will take whatever capacity we can and it will be a good club day. It's one that has filled the club with excitement."

Meanwhile, the Blues have announced that due to their FA Cup clash, their npower Championship fixture at Leicester has been moved to Tuesday March 13 with a 7.45pm kick-off

The Canaries chief watched his side secure a 2-1 win at West Brom on Saturday to book a place in the fifth round of the competition where they will now host Leicester, who saw off Swindon 2-0, at Carrow Road on either February 18 or 19.

It leaves Norwich three games from a Wembley final in the FA Cup and Lambert insists it would be great for the club if they made it that far.

But with some important Premier League games coming up this week - at Sunderland on Wednesday before a visit from Bolton on Saturday - his main focus is to keep adding points on the board to reach safety as quickly as possible.

Lambert told the Pink 'un: "It would be great if we could stay in the Premier League. That answers it.

"I am delighted to get through and pleased not to have a replay. I didn't want to go to that as I said in the build up because it is another game.

"I can understand people wanting to stay in the Premier League first and foremost for the simple reason that it is the greatest league. That is not to undermine the FA Cup at all.

"If you asking me which I prefer, then the Premier League status is absolutely vital for this football club. This was a really tough place to go, but we came up trumps.

"The lads are buoyant but win, lose or draw you let it go and look at the next game. We have a really tough one on Wednesday night but we'll go up there in great form and with great momentum and do everything we can to win."

However, two Robin van Persie penalties either side of a fortuitous Theo Walcott goal helped the Gunners storm back to progress which left McLeish downbeat afterwards.

"I am very disappointed we did not see it out and it is a missed opportunity," he said.

"The fans will be gutted at seeing us let that lead slip away. We have to learn from this and try to obtain that winning mentality."

The 24-year-old returned from 17 months of misery with two cruciate ligament injuries to claim a second-half equaliser which denied derby rivals Middlesbrough a giant-killing victory at the Stadium of Light.

Campbell, who was introduced as a half-time substitute, expertly converted James McClean's 59th-minute cross to announce his re-emergence in style.

"Dave Galley, our physiotherapist, tells me - and Dave has been in the business a fairly lengthy time - that he may well be the best of the lot in terms of never being down," O'Neill said.

"After the injury, to get the same injury again, you might have thought that might be it.

"But he knuckled down again, always with a smile on his face. He gives everybody a lift around the football club because of his attitude, almost epitomised in the way everything happened for him in that moment.

"It was great for him to celebrate. I am delighted for him."

The Aston Villa manager, who watched his side crash out of the FA Cup after throwing away a 2-0 half time lead against the Gunners, was left frustrated that no action was taken by the referee when Van Persie appeared to catch Cuellar as they jumped for a high ball in the 64th minute at the Emirates.

And, he called on the bosses at the Football Association to take another look at the incident with a view to punishing the Dutchman, whose two penalties added to Theo Walcott's goal in Arsenal's second half comeback.

"I thought it was a clear elbow, but the referee did not seem to think there was anything in it," he said.

"Would I like the FA to look at it? Yes, if it was an elbow in the face - look at my nose, it is a result of elbows all my career.

"It is something which is dangerous. I never mentioned it to the referee. I saw it in real time.

"I don't like to point the finger at players, but it has happened to mine enough times."

El-Abd was left with a cut lip after being caught by a stray boot from the Magpies midfielder as the two players fell to the floor.

Referee Lee Probert appeared not to see the incident but, in the wake of Mario Balotelli's retrospective four-match ban for his stamp on Scott Parker, Cabaye could be in hot water if the Football Association decide to take action.

"I've seen it again and I think it was frustration on his part and he did have a little kick out at me," said El-Abd.

"I think it was a sending-off. I think he knew what he was doing as well but that's for the referee to decide. The ref said he would look at it after the game. He told me that when I was down.

"The evidence was clear, I had blood on my lip which didn't magic itself there, his stud was in my face. We'll see what happens.

"It's part of the game, it's not nice but sometimes people get frustrated and it was a sign of how well we were doing as a team."

Campbell netted on his first senior appearance for the club since August 2010 after recovering from two serious knee injuries, to cancel out Barry Robson's 16th minute opener.

The two sides will have to do it all again at the Riverside the week after next, with a draw a just result after a frenetic 90 minutes.

Sunderland, with a history of late goals under Martin O'Neill's managership, went close in the final stages but did not seriously threaten Boro substitute goalkeeper Connor Ripley, who came on for the injured Danny Coyne with ten minutes to go.

Sunderland started the game the brighter. Sebastian Larsson went close with a tenth minute header, then, three minutes later, Seb Hines headed a David Vaughan corner against team-mate Faris Haroun, with the ball just looping over Coyne's crossbar.

But Robson gave the Championship side the lead in emphatic style after 16 minutes. Marvin Emnes forced John O'Shea into a weak clearance, and the Scotland international slammed a left-foot volley into the bottom corner past Black Cats' goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Irish winger James McClean could have levelled twice within a matter of minutes for the Premier League side, first forcing a save from Coyne then heading Vaughan's cross straight at the grateful goalkeeper.

The home side then had a goal ruled out six minutes before the break when Craig Gardner controlled Kieran Richardson's cross and fired home off the foot of the far post. However, the match officials decided that Gardner had used a hand to get the ball under control.

Sunderland did level just before the hour, thanks to half-time substitute Campbell.

It came from a rapid counter-attack after Emnes had messed up a short corner, and Robson had attempted an underhit backpass. McClean was alive to the chance and squared the ball for Campbell to coolly finish.

Mike Williamson’s own-goal in the second half, coming after excellent work from Will Buckley, was enough for the Championship side to win the fourth round tie.

Leon Best had two good chances to open the scoring inside the opening quarter of the game, firstly striking a low shot narrowly wide and then heading over the bar after Shola Ameobi had nodded Danny Simpson's centre back across the box.

Brighton responded well to the early threats, with Buckley causing problems before Craig Mackail-Smith almost dispossessed Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Towards the end of the first period, both sides had opportunities to take the lead. Mackail-Smith shot too high after a fast break from the hosts, while Peter Brezovan made a comfortable save from Danny Simpson following a fine Hatem Ben Arfa pass at the other end, as the half ended scoreless.

Following a quiet opening to the second half, Newcastle had three attempts on goal in quick succession, but could not convert any of them. After Brezovan had turned away a curling effort from Best and Danny Guthrie's follow up was deflected over the bar, the goalkeeper saved well from Ameobi.

It was Brighton, however, who hit the front with 14 minutes of normal time remaining. Buckley took the ball away from Simpson, beat Yohan Cabaye and drove in a shot, which crept past Krul thanks to a crucial deflection from Williamson.

The Premier League side were unable to carve out a clear-cut opportunity in the closing stages of the game, although they had a penalty appeal for a handball by Ashley Barnes correctly turned down, ensuring that Gus Poyet’s side progressed to the fifth round of the competition.

Rangers boss Mark Hughes admitted the pre-match handshake between QPR and Chelsea may have been cancelled because more than one of his players were considering snubbing Terry.

The Football Association gave the clubs permission not to undertake the usual handshake routine prior to the fourth-round tie at Loftus Road, which was settled by Juan Mata's 62nd-minute penalty after Clint Hill was adjudged to have pushed over Daniel Sturridge.

Cameron Jerome scored early and Robert Huth late as a game effort from Nigel Clough’s hosts was not enough for them to stage an upset.

The Premier League side only needed five minutes to go in front. Matthew Etherington and Glenn Whelan worked a shot corner to leave the Rams’ defence at sixes and sevens. Republic of Ireland midfielder Whelan eventually sent the ball into the near post, where Peter Crouch got a touch before his strike partner Jerome knocked in his fourth goal in five games.

Tony Pulis’ side got to the final of this competition last season and would have liked to wrap this one up as early as they could in the quest to get back there. However, the game became testy after the opener and it took until midway through the half for them to forge another chance when Whelan’s free-kick was directed over the bar by Jerome’s head. Andy Wilkinson hit an effort into the side-netting too.

Derby were slow to get into the game, with young Irishman Jeff Hendrick half-volleying just wide from the edge of the area near the half hour mark. Stoke continued to have the better of it though and almost went two clear when Robert Huth hit the Rams upright when meeting a Matthew Etherington corner.

The Potters then survived a penalty shout before the break when the Derby contingent felt that Ryan Shawcross had impeded Jamie Ward in the visitors’ area.

It took nearly a quarter of an hour of the second half for either goalkeeper to have anything to do. It was the Premier League custodian who was called into action as Asmir Begovic had to backtrack to prevent an out-swinging delivery from Paul Green from curling in at the back post.

At the other end, Frank Fielding collected the ball ahead of any Stoke attackers after Etherington ghosted past Gareth Roberts and Jason Shackell and fired across the box.

Fielding then kept out a vicious long-range free from sub Jermaine Pennant, whose later corner was headed over the Derby bar by Jon Walters.

Stoke did, however, finally kill their hosts off eight minutes from time.
Pennant fired in another corner, which Huth met with his right foot. The shot was straight at Fielding, but just about beat the young goalkeeper to seal Stoke’s place in the fifth round draw.

Luke Moore had put the Swans in front with a beauty at the Reebok Stadium, but Pratley drew the fourth round clash level before half-time. Chris Eagles then pounced to put Owen Coyle’s men in front 11 minutes into the second half and that is how it stayed.

Swansea goalkeeper Gerhard Tremmel – in for the rested Michel Vorm – was the first goalkeeper called into action, when he denied Sam Ricketts as he tried to direct in Eagles’ cross. Eagles, excellent in last week’s superb win over Liverpool in the Premier League, then wasted a couple of shooting chances before Tremmel kept out decent efforts from David Ngog and Mark Davies.

While Bolton were wasting all these chances Swansea were playing their usual brand of delicious football, albeit without creating a great deal themselves. Mark Gower did slice a rare attempt wide for them, but the Trotters continued to have more opportunities as Eagles and Martin Petrov lucked out.

Brendan Rodgers’ men had a goal disallowed when Wayne Routledge was ruled offside as he tapped in Leroy Lita’s cross. However, Swansea would take the lead two minutes before half-time.

Their fine passing game unlocked the Bolton defence with Lita providing the penultimate touch to Moore, who beat off the challenge of David Wheater before dinking the ball over Adam Bogdan.

The lead did not even last until half-time though. Pratley was fouled by Lita on the Bolton right, allowing Petrov to swing in a left-footed free-kick for Pratley to head in from point-blank range and leave his old pals deflated as the teams were deadlocked at half-time.

Chelsea loanee Josh McEachran fed Moore early in the second half, but he could not fire Swansea back in front with his off-target effort.

Instead, it was Bolton who would nick the lead. Petrov was again involved as his low shot was carelessly spilled by Tremmel, allowing Eagles to run in and fire the rebound to the back of the Swans net.

Lita and Pratley traded efforts against the bar before Pratley ran onto a weak pass and the latter just shot wide as the tie remained open. Kemy Agustien and Ashley Williams had chances for Swansea, while Joe Riley and Nigel Reo-Coker both found the side-netting for Bolton.

Then right at the death Swansea substitute Danny Graham could have salvaged a replay, but his header came back off of Bogdan’s upright as last year’s semi-finalists, the Trotters, march on.

Grant Holt scored for the visitors from close range and Marc-Antoine Fortune netted from a Jerome Thomas cross to level the clash.

Five minutes from time, substitute Jackson took advantage of a mistake from Craig Dawson to send Norwich through.

Midway through the first period, Norwich’s 19-year-old goalkeeper Jed Steer did superbly to tip a Thomas volley from a Gonzalo Jara Reyes cross onto the crossbar, as the hosts threatened to break the deadlock.

However, somewhat against the run of the play, the visitors took the lead in the 35th minute when Holt struck from close range following Elliott Bennett's cross from the right wing.

West Brom hit back early in the second half through Fortune, who netted from six yards following a fine run and cross by Thomas.

After equalising, the hosts took control of the game once again, but failed to turn their dominance into a lead, and were struck with a hammer blow five minutes from time.

Dawson was at fault, loosing possession inside his own box, resulting in Jackson drilling a shot beyond Ben Foster and into the corner of the net.

Substitute Shane Long and Joe Mattock made attempts at equalising in the closing stages, but Steer saved both efforts to secure Norwich’s second 2-1 at West Brom in a fortnight.
